Harvard University epidemiology professor Marc Lipsitch warns that the coronavirus may not be contained during 2020. He is among the authors of a research paper which notes that the virus may continue to flare up for a number of years if a vaccine or an effective treatment is not developed.
The paper, which has been published in ‘Science’ journal, concludes that social distancing measures may need to be reinstated intermittently over the next few years unless the virus is completely eradicated. The authors note that it is uncertain as how long immunity from the virus will last.
