In a recent interview with the U.K.’s Financial Times, U.S. President Donald Trump made a case that all beneficiaries of trade through the Strait of Hormuz should help to resume trade through the waterway.
“It’s only appropriate that people who are the beneficiaries of the Strait will help to make sure that nothing bad happens there,” Trump said, arguing that Europe and China are heavily dependent on oil from the Gulf, unlike the US.
Trump went on to argue that Beijing has a particular interest in resuming trade through the Strait of Hormuz:
