Trump mulls deal in the mirror

The American Madman raised the prospect of talks to resolve a dispute that has disrupted oil markets and nearly stopped shipping in the vital Strait of Hormuz.

“Iran wants to make a deal, and I don’t want to make it because the terms aren’t good enough yet,” Trump stated, adding that Tehran’s promise to give up its nuclear aspirations would be necessary for a “very solid” deal. He provided no information about any discussions, and it’s unclear who, if anyone, is communicating with Iran on behalf of the United States.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that despite Trump’s statement to NBC on Saturday that he is open to a deal but wants better conditions, the Islamic Republic has not requested negotiations or a ceasefire.
