Honestly, is there no end to this woke claptrap? Jenna Price thinks kids are the abusers of poor victim teachers.
Here’s where we are today. One in four teachers feels unsafe at work, says Fiona Longmuir of Monash University. That makes them want to leave teaching. Years ago now, she and her colleagues set out to find out why teachers desert the profession. Here’s their crucial finding on safety: “The overwhelming issue was about the sense of conflict between the rights of someone to a safe workplace and the rights of a child to an education.”
Teaching is meant to be a family-friendly profession, but other Monash researchers say that’s now far from the truth. What drew women to teaching is no longer. The hours are no longer short, if they ever really were. When my daughter works at her school during the holidays to get ahead for the next term, I fear for her safety. Think I’m overreacting? Then think about Stephanie Scott, the bride-to-be snatched and slaughtered as she worked over the Easter “break” on the eve of her wedding. Why was she at work then? She wanted her substitute to have everything she needed. That’s what teaching requires.
Women are rushing to leave the teaching workforce. It’s not just that your children are awful (and my god, they are). It’s also because schools offer no structures to support women. Make a complaint about a student and that student is likely to get a virtual slap on the wrist, even when he threatens to rape a teacher.
Okay, so one kid says something stupid, and now all the boys must be jailed for acting up. If only this were just some media dill mouthing off.
This garbage is being acted upon in your school. My local male principal was recently fired, in part for serially reporting boys to Child Protection for allegedly abusing teachers.
One 13-year-old child, who was nothing more than a prankster, was asked by Child Protection to do sexual deviant training with paedos, rapists, etc. You might want to read that sentence again.
Thankfully, the community intervened, and the case was thrown out, along with the unhinged principal who appeared intent upon penalising a single generation of boys for 100,000 years of misogyny. Or, more likely, he was toxic, as fundamentalists always are.
The girls are just as bad but are always let off. Two girls with a crush tried to sell one of my kids on Ebay for a lark. The sale ended up on some paedo site. The police came to my door to make sure I wasn’t pawning my own kids. Nothing happened to the girls. The police despaired.
Forty years ago, I went to a selective public school where culture, behaviour, and discipline were seen as paramount, and the cane was still used to enforce it. The school was recognised for good behaviour. Yet I often saw teachers reduced to tears or explosive anger by child mockery. This was more common among blokes than women.
I would never be a teacher for this reason. Kids are little shits in the classroom. They always have been.
What has changed is that teachers are encouraged by woke tosspots to see themselves as victims of children instead of empowered adults trained to contain them.
Teachers are trained these days to have no personal power. Filled up with the misnomer of “resilience” which, in actuality, is teaching people to stand there and take shit instead of dealing with a problem assertively.
This is another of the fine gifts bequeathed to us by the alliance of fake left and fake right, turning us all into shit-eating, cookie-cutter corporate automatons.
But, just as it always was, this weakness is a red rag to kids, who can sense it from a thousand paces.
The issues raised by Price are not about gender. They are somewhat about the rules around technology. Mostly, they are about debilitating culture wars.
A teacher’s only job is to win the respect of the class so that the kids might absorb a bit of knowledge instead of doing what they are hard-wired to do, which is play.
If you can’t do that, don’t be a teacher.
