Block China from joining the CPTPP

Chinese President Xi Jinping raised China’s desire to join the 12 member Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) during talks with Anthony Albanese on Monday.

However, Japan has reiterated its opposition to China joining the CPTPP, warning the Albanese government that economic coercion and unfair trade practices should not be tolerated when assessing Beijing’s request.

There are concerns within Tokyo that Australia may back China’s bid in an effort to soothe relations between the two countries.
