Desmodromic

I returned to Adelaide mid-week having travelled 9,300 km in 5 weeks. Departing Townsville on Sunday morning, I headed inland with some uncertainty about my route south. Rain had closed roads everywhere. Initially I planned to go via the far west through Birdsville or Tibooburra but that wasn’t an option. Plan B was to stay on the bitumen through Emerald and Roma but the roads south of St George were closed due to flooding. So my only option was through Barcaldine to Cunnamulla and Bourke to Broken Hill. However, I had bad memories of 30 km of bulldust on the road from Torrens Creek to Barcaldine that were now likely mud. Thankfully the road builders has made progress and only a few kilometres of gravel road remained. Central Queensland is greener than I’ve seen previously. Lush grasses and birdlife everywhere. Flocks of brolga, Australian bustards, red-winged parrots, cockatiels and budgies. Great to see. I survived Blackall, found good coffee in Charleville and Bourke, discovered accommodation in Broken Hill to be booked out, and got cold and wet on the last 60 km through the Adelaide Hills. To my relief the Australian brand rear tyre lasted the entire trip. Previous tyres has only travelled half the distance. So ends ‘Tales from the road’ for 2022.
