Ermington Plumbing

‘The lovely old lady who lives in this Gladesville property paid $2500 for some roofing contractor to membrane the 2 Roof valleys into the dodgy 30 to 40 year old fill in extension and didn’t even pull back the tiles to membrane the whole valley properly.

I’m told it has always leaked down the internal brick wall in heavy rain even after the 2500 spend,…but not any more I’m told after my $250 “do yer best and silicone the rest” job.

She’s almost 90 and I would have felt guilty walking her up to a full valley replacement. It was a terrible designed and flashed tie in from day one.’

Being a realestate job I’m waiting for approval to replace the destroyed earthenware boundary trap. The jetter head erupted straight outa the ground.

The buried vertical was completed packed with roots and was never going to be properly jetted through the boundary trap. I’ve been here every year or so for the last 7 or 8 years and have had my prices recommendation to bring the down stream shaft to the surface rejected every time.

All this rain is gunna fill their branch line with mud.’

‘These are probably the most boring pics ever, but here are some pics of my ropemaking adventures. First lot are dyneema eye splices (one with pliers for scale).

Second lot are soft shackles. Note whipped ends for poking and little tag to pull to open the eye. These would lift over 700kg amazingly.

I like to buy hardcopy books for stuff like this, my impromptu ropemakers kit, dyneema halyards/outhauls and eye splices, and various sheets with sewn whipping. I was experimenting on the length of the whipping on the green/red ones. It should be 1.5 times diameter apparently.

I’ll be splicing one of those dyneema outhauls to the small braided poly when I can get to the boat and estimate sizing for the outhaul channel.’

‘My 13b rotary engine teardown is slowly progressing.

There is a lot of hoses, solenoids, checkvalves etc that control the now antiquated twin turbo operation (sequential system).

I’m yet to decide if I keep the original set up or replace and simplify with a modern turbo set up.

The exhaust ports show coolant/oil mixed together on the front rotor and rear rotor is fine. Peeking inside I see some small amount of rust inside. Here is to hoping it’s not bad and I can get away without replacing lots of expensive internal parts.’

‘Not the greatest astrophotography ever, but my first (and so far only) “success” with a Deep Sky Object. This particular DSO is the nebula in Orion’s sword.

Considering it’s only done with a DSLR and an ordinary tripod, I’m kinda happy with it.’

Wheels are painted, new wiring loom installed, and instruments and lights refurbished. Now preparing the bodywork for paint.’

Failed Baby Boomer

‘I ordered a Prusa Mini kit from the manufacturer in Europe as my first 3D printer.

The assembly was well detailed and gave me a useful understanding of the machine.

The setup and calibration was easy and it prints beautifully.

I am learning to draw 3D components in Fusion360 and so far have imported a few simple designs seamlessly.

It has been a very invigorating and satisfying exercise!’
