The Quad is a long-term geo-political entity that includes four Indo-Pacific democracies in the US, Japan. India and Australia. It has never done a great deal but its time may have come. The FT is reporting:

  • President Joe Biden is preparing to host A Quad Summit with all four leaders. The summit will be virtual.
  • India has traditionally been seen as the least enthusiastic Quad member there has been a “huge turn” in its willingness to push China back.
  • Recent border skirmishes played a big role.
  • US-Indian military and intelligence co-operation is advancing.
  • US and Australian navies can now refuel at Indian ports.
  • China will need to get worse for the Quad to become a full military alliance.

In short, it’ll probably happen. Axios is also reporting that:

  • The Japanese PM, Yoshihide Suga, will be the first foreign leader to visit the White House.
  • This suggests firmly that the Biden Administration sees Chin as its number one foreign policy priority.

Australia is very far from alone in its fight against the Communist Party of China.
