Tony Abbott ensnared by United Front

Via Domain:

Mr Abbott, fundraiser John Caputo and state MPs John Sidoti and Mark Coure, were all VIP guests at a Chinese New Year function attended by Beijing’s highest ranking United Front affiliates in Australia.

The United Front Work Department is a unique agency overseen by the Chinese Communist Party’s Central Committee and which leads the party’s United Front operations aimed at influencing overseas Chinese and Western elites, including politicians, to back Beijing’s aims.

When Mr Abbott was informed by The Age and the Sydney Morning Herald that associates of the United Front were at the event, he said: “If I knew [United Front groups were there], I wouldn’t have gone. The last thing I am is a patsy for the Chinese government.”

Abbott has form here, earlier last week, also at Domain:

Tony Abbott’s office helped a billionaire labelled an “agent of a foreign country” to donate to the Liberal Party, even though Mr Abbott had earlier been warned by ASIO about the donor’s links to the Chinese Communist Party.

In mid 2016, Mr Abbott’s office played a role in encouraging Australian-based Chinese property developer Huang Xiangmo to give thousands of dollars to at least one Liberal candidate in the lead up to the election.

The previous year, while Mr Abbott was prime minister, he had received specific warnings from ASIO about Mr Huang’s opaque connections to the Chinese Communist Party and how this may be linked to his donation activity.

If you’re serious about it, Tony, then give any and all donations back. Otherwise why would we believe that you give two hoots?

  1. And here’s out very own Chau Chak Wing (he’s Australian for whatever that’s worth), who has “never heard” of the United Front:

Advice to politicians: almost all Chinese organisations, anything with the word “association” in the name is a United Front organisation. Civil society does not exist in the mainland Chinese world, only the Party. This included all the fraternal associations of overseas Chinese that originated throughout the diaspora in South East Asia – they have been infiltrated and taken over by the United Front.

Pretty much any organisation involving Chinese that is not United Front would be a dissident group likely to be marginalised and bullied or worse by agents of the Party.

He Really, Really, Really wants to be opposition leader again doesn’t he. Anyone who thinks Politics in this country isn’t driven by Money is a fool.
The Advocates and Toadies of our Plutocractic political system couldn’t give 2 fks about the origins or motivations of moneyed interests nor the concept of electoral representation.

Party memberships should have controll of policy making,…not the “elected” sellouts that “lead” our political parties.

And for many life after politics is still chasing the money .
Noted that John Brumby has left the board of Huawei ……..( the money might now not be so free flowing as they are contained in the West )
He is going to become Chancellor of La Trobe University …….guess he can still get to trouser some Chinese dosh from all those low quality degrees they sell
      ……malouderous little man

Agree about Brumby, he’s a total China stooge. I was with him on a trade trip to Shanghai last year. He’s a sycophantic dribbler with his hand out while proclaiming their greatness. He should be tried for treason and his government pension cut off. He’s essentially no better than Robb, in fact I saw him also on the same trip.

That was a very disturbing read. Especially the later portion with photos of the sitting member of the ALP plus the fund raising instigator published on the website of a Chinese government group given we know the intention of these government associations and their coordinated actions to effect corruption for undue influence. The Chinese lobby groups in Australian politics show how effective they are at gaining undue influence for a group only 5% of the population. Soon we could be Indo or Malaysia, both have long been invaded and controlled. I say that with many friends being Indo and Malaysian Chinese, but it is a reality most of the world likes to ignore
