World Economic Forum: move beyond GDP and focus on societal wellbeing

A few weeks back, I reported that New Zealand’s Labour-led coalition government planned to be one of the first nations in the world to measure its success against how it does socially, culturally and environmentally, rather than relying on GDP – a rather useless measure that most economists and policy makers focus on.

Yesterday, Richard Samans – Managing Director of the World Economic Forum (WEF) – penned an article in VOX calling for nations to move beyond GDP and instead focus on broader measures of living standards:
