Atlassian billionaire demands more coolies

From the man with the plan:

Atlassian co-founder Scott Farquhar has called on the federal government to introduce a visa for highly skilled foreign workers who can help generate jobs in Australia.

“We should make a new category of people from overseas who could help generate jobs of the future here,” he said yesterday.

Mr Farquhar said there was a big difference between a 457-type visa for someone who was helping fill a specific skill shortage, such as a plumber or a hairdresser, and a visa for a highly skilled tech person who could help train more Australians and create more jobs.

He said the federal government’s changes to the 457 visa process last year had sent a message to talented people offshore that Australia was “closed for business”.

…A quarter of Atlassian’s Australia-based workforce of about 1000 are on 457 visas.

Do you really need more than 250 of these uber-specialists Scott?
