Hewson: Turnbull is out of control

We’ve become inured to idiot politicians so we don’t really blink these days as they sink to asinine new levels and someone criticises them for it.

Yet in truth, it’s not all that often that a former leader of political party completely destroys a current prime minister of that same party. That is precisely what John Hewson has done:

A principal weakness of the Turnbull government is its mismanagement of issues. As issues break, they don’t seem to have any political, policy, or communications strategies to handle them effectively. They are mostly reactive, rather than proactive, ultimately forced to run a high-risk position according to someone else’s agenda.

Their initial responses are often ill considered, and their actions from the hip. More often than not they soon lose control of the issue, remaining stuck pretty much at the mercy of their own incompetence as events further unfold.

This is certainly the case with the two current, consuming issues, same-sex marriage and dual citizenship, both now likely to dominate for the next several months, as distractions from what should be the focus of government in these very challenging economic and social times.

…So, both issues could, and now must, run as constant, evolving, distractions for months. The electorate is sick of the lot of it. That both issues have been so badly managed, creating a sense of chaos in government, adds further to the voters’ general disenchantment with our politicians and the political process, at a time where many are struggling to simply meet the ever-increasing costs and difficulties of living.

…Lead the public debate, and outline and embark on a broad-based reform agenda, to provide some confidence he can actually govern, that costs of living can be reduced, that jobs can be created and secured.

Probably too much to expect?

Lol, yeh. All we can really do at this point is place our heads firmly between our legs and wait for Labor.
