The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) yesterday released visitor arrivals and departures data for the month of October, which registered a small decline in annual immigration.

In the year to October 2016, there were 706,560 permanent and long-term arrivals into Australia – up 5% from October 2015 but well down from the record 792,500 arrivals set in the year to January 2013 – partly offset by 439,820 permanent and long-term departures from Australia (see next chart).
