Vive la France

From the BBC:

A lorry has struck a crowd after Bastille Day celebrations in the southern French city of Nice, killing at least 80 people and injuring dozens, officials say.

It happened on the famous Promenade des Anglais after a firework display. The driver was shot dead and guns and grenades were found inside the lorry.

President Francois Hollande said the attack was of a “terrorist nature”.

He extended a state of emergency by three months.

France had been on high alert following last November’s attacks in Paris in which 130 people died and hundreds were wounded.

The state of emergency had been due to end on 26 July.

“France is badly hit,” Mr Hollande said, adding that “we need to do everything we can to fight against” such attacks.

“All of France is under the threat of Islamic terrorism,” he said, adding that “several children” were among those killed.

About 50 people were injured, 18 of them critically, in the incident on Thursday, which was Bastille Day – France’s national day.

Prosecutor Jean-Michel Pretre said the lorry drove 2km (1.2 miles) through a large crowd, the AFP news agency reported.

One image on Twitter showed about a dozen people lying on the street.

Interior Ministry spokesman Pierre-Henry Brandet denied earlier reports of hostage situations and said the driver of the lorry had been “neutralised”.

This is unbelievable savagery and, to state the obvious, will trigger extreme rage in the French people.

The National Front is going to be a juggernaut.

  1. And rightly so. The war needs to be won. Brexit, Trump for the win. France on a rampage with a huge coalition. the west can’t wait any longer. Decisive action needs to be taken.

    • I don’t know if it’s the naivety or stupidity of this attitude than annoys me most. Do you really think it’s that easy? Do you seriously think it would work? Radical islamic terrorism is not caused by immigration, it’s so much more complex than that and the answers are therefore more complex.

Closing the borders, mass deportation – even if they were possible – would only create far bigger and more serious issues.

      • So we should just leave it as is to sort itself out I guess…I am sure the ‘moderate’ Islamic influx into Europe will at some point deal with these ‘extreme’ elements on the Wests behalf, somehow I don’t think so. Time for the West to take a gloves off approach to dealing with this multicultural problem.

      • Never said anything about closing boarders, mass deportation etc. I assume you got that from my reference to Trump and Brexit. What I’m saying is the west needs to act now. Before we start those crazy ideas.

The French bloody welcomes all people with open arms and these nutters take advantage of that. That will shake the national psyche to its core and these crazy solutions may become a possibility.

      • Radical islamic terrorism is not caused by immigration, it’s so much more complex than that and the answers are therefore more complex.

Its not just radical Islam we need to worry about – moderate Islam is an absolute disgrace as well. Even the most progressive Islam in existence is only just verging on some of the most regressive anti-gay, misogyny of western regressive Christianity.

I personally think even some of the most progressive, liberal Christianity needs to be done away with – so that leaves pretty much all of Islam as an absolute anathema to any free thinking civil, liberal progressive thinking person.

As to immigration the notion that there are immigrants and Muslims and they are entirely different things is utterly perverse. Yes there are refugees who need help, and we absolutely have the right, THE CIVIC DUTY to humanity to reject those who bring with them an ideology which is destructive towards the western civil society.

        Its that simple.

And all of Islam from the countries of origins of these immigrants represents the very worst of the single worst organised ideology on earth today, beating out other competitors like Scientology by several laps of Flemmington.

The idea that ending their influx will somehow only stoke further violence is not reason to let more in – its reason to end it immediately.

The idea that deporting them will only inflame their violence is not reason NOT to do it – its reason TO DO IT.

If someone has violent tendencies in our society we do not respond by saying best to let them out and be free amongst society with their impulsive violent reactions because they might be violent if we keep them in. Its just absurd. Its just the absolute pinnacle of pandering to violence.

The answer is absolutely, yes it needs to stop. These violent attacks are the goal, they are the medium, the message, the means and the end. Their purpose is simply to advertise them – so that others can emulate them.

That’s all there is too it. That’s it. Its a wholesale attack on western wealth and power from an entire swathe of people locked into poverty by a western system of wealth / power hegemony. The only outlet they have is to do this. Its as obvious as day.

There is no doubt that this is a response to our own western actions after a century of dominion and violence in the Islamic world by western christian nations both overt violence and covert second hand dictatorships and soft power transacted through dictatorial brutality – absolutely NO DOUBT – its our fault.

        But its done.

The answer is yes to send them home. To start again and to reengage the entire project from one of wealth and prosperity delivering hope to their nations and aiding them in overcoming their regressive religiosity via our potent propaganda and media capabilities coupled with strong growth in proletariat wealth and extended periods of peace and redevelopment and a flourishing social network including health, education and self reliance.

From there our civilisations can reengage in integration.

This has absolutely nothing to do with racism and everything to do with that most reliable blend of oppression, poverty and religiosity. It is a formula as concrete, proven, and undeniable as any measure we have ever taken on anything in all our scientific continuity.

Simply mashing the paradigm of an archaic extreme religious orthodoxy with the boundless civil liberal western philosophy is utterly doomed to even the most positive noble thinking mind.

Time for people to have an honest appraisal of the reality on the ground rather than posturing for praise on blandly recanting politically correct yet logically inept moral mantra from middle class wowsers.

        Just intellectually boorish junk.

      • Well Boba you might be willing to destroy the entire foundation of a free society, but I’m not.

It’s frightening, simplistic, blunt thinking, with no consideration of the consequences.

What is your definition of radical Islam? I’d call it orthodox, since it’s a literal interpretation from reading of the scripture.

Is it radical to think honor killings are at least sometimes justified? Is it radical to want to live under sharia law? Is it radical to believe killing to further your religion’s political goals is at least sometimes justified?

Many views by islamists are incompatible with pluralistic western democracies.

Europe is now undergoing a civil war. Sweden is the rape capital of the western world. Europeans who’ve been raped have held off reporting the crime for fear of what it would do to attitudes of migrants.

Public pools are imposing sharia and segregating the sexes due to the actions of immigrants. School girls are told to dress modestly to protect against abuse from immigrants.

Political Islam is a cancer and it is now metastasizing through western Europe.

      • A state cannot enact a state law that contradicts any existing federal laws. So, why should sharia law, or any other law that contradicts existing laws, be tolerated in the West? If an individual commits a crime under existing laws it is illegal no matter what sharia law states, period. End of story.

Many views by many religions are incompatible with pluralistic western democracies, especially if you want to literally interpret their holy scriptures.

You do understand it’s completely meaningless to compare crime statistics like that across countries, right ?

The whole “Sweden is the rape capital of Europe” has been interesting to watch evolve. Used to be the alt-right talked about Sweden’s rape statistics in the context of “teh feminazis” and how they were meaningless because in Sweden a wolf-whistle was considered a sexual assault and all the men were so pussified that they sat down to piss.

But now they’ve got the opportunity to do a bit of muslim-bashing Sweden’s sexual assault laws are the gold standard and every reported rape equals a conviction. What’s even funnier is some of the hardcore mens-rights types are out there _still_ taking the original line and arguing that all this focus on muslims is just a media-led distraction from the real problem of Wymyn.

Public pools are imposing sharia and segregating the sexes due to the actions of immigrants. School girls are told to dress modestly to protect against abuse from immigrants.

Good thing we never do any sexual-assault-victim-blaming in our enlightened pluralistic western democracies !

We have no choice but to vote for Geert, UKIP, Le Pen, Norbert Hofer, Pauline Hanson.

    • Correct Jacob.
Despite clear majority favouring a stable or smaller population, a complete refusal to even discuss population growth (although Julia Gillard did have a moment) and its impacts on quality of life, resilience and the ongoing consumption of finite, non-renewable resources as that impacts intergenerational equity, just forces people into the hands of radical hate preachers.

The first major party that plucks up courage to embrace this issue will wipe the floor with all the other parties.

The Nice attack shows how vulnerable Western nations are to increasingly “creative” terrorists who don’t need bombs to kill and create havoc, former prime minister Tony Abbott says.

  8. Someone much smarter than me penned this
“Nothing can save England if she will not save herself,” Churchill wrote in “While England Slept”.
“If, while on all sides foreign nations are every day asserting a more aggressive and militant nationalism by arms and trade, we remain paralyzed by our theoretical doctrines or plunged in stupor…then indeed our ruin will be swift and final.” “Loaded with debt and taxation, her commerce and trade shut out by foreign tariffs and quotas, England would sink to the level of a fifth-rate power, and nothing would remain of all her glories. The era of procrastination, of half measures, of soothing and baffling expedients, of delays, is coming to its close.
In its place we are entering a period of consequences.”

    • Guess who???
“For five years I have talked to the House on these matters—not with very great success.
I have watched this famous island descending incontinently, fecklessly, the stairway which leads to a dark gulf.
It is a fine broad stairway at the beginning, but after a bit the carpet ends.
A little farther on there are only flagstones, and a little farther on still these break beneath your feet…
If mortal catastrophe should overtake the British Nation and the British Empire, historians a thousand years hence will still be baffled by the mystery of our affairs.
They will never understand how it was that a victorious nation, with everything in hand, suffered themselves to be brought low, and to cast away all that they had gained by measureless sacrifice and absolute victory—gone with the wind!
Now the victors are the vanquished, and those who threw down their arms in the field and sued for an armistice are striding on to world mastery….
We should lay aside every hindrance and endeavour by uniting the whole force and spirit of our people to raise again a great British nation standing up before all the world; for such a nation, rising in its ancient vigour, can even at this hour save civilization.”

    • 57 Million Indians starved to death as a result of the British taxation system enforced upon them, a Million Iraqi’s died in the second Gulf War, half a Million children died as a result of the sanctions, more sorties run and bombs were dropped during the non fly zone enforcement on Iraq than in all of world war two combined, the Libyan No Fly Zone was strictly a NON FIRING mandate, the 8 year war was a US proxy war on Iran, there were no 9/11 terrorists in Afghanistan when the US invaded, which is now the longest running war in post modern history, and that the US has invaded over 100 countries in a little over a century. Almost no country on earth has not been invaded by modern western allies, including the 100 Million killed in the great wars.

Yup. 168 American office workers almost seems like nothing in contrast to the rampage of almost hallucinogenic violence visited upon all other nations by the western powers. Almost. Not quite though, because they were ours.

Recently (prior to the latest attack on the French), I posted on another site regarding the reasons behind Brexit, one of which is control by Britain over its own borders. I couldn’t help but think of the long-ago words of one Enoch Powell. He saw the future for his country in his unfolding present. If he were to be sitting up there now and looking down, he may well be thinking “I told you so”. His words now have resonance for all of Europe, indeed for the whole world.
Regrettably, it can’t be undone now – it’s too late. A bit like considering changing the gun laws in the US – with 300 million guns in the public’s hands, it will never happen.

    • Or it’s a reflection of what’s going on out there in the real world. The comments on most of the sites I visit are now polarised into extremes and it’s hard to tell if it’s real or constructed by bots and vested interests.

Well, I did have this Indian client the other week, who after agreeing on a price before commencement of a job, tried really hard and agressively to haggle down the price at completion of said job.

Having many wealthy indian customers, this is a common occurrence which I deal with by very polietly explaining that ,…
I understand that haggling after an agreed apon price is a common and accepted cultural practice in India,….but here in Australia it is considered extremely irritating, uncoth and impolite.
I mean why get me to do the fucking job if they dont agree to my quoted price!
