Charting Australia’s housing investment cliff

The Housing Industry Association (HIA) has today released its HIA National and State Outlooks – Summer Edition 2016 report, which provides forecasts of dwelling construction and renovation activity at both the national and state levels.
At the national level, the HIA has forecast that dwelling starts will tread water in 2015-16 at near record high levels (213,050 dwellings) before construction falls by 24.8% to 160,100 over the two financial years to 2017/18 (see next chart).
