Former Treasury forecaster raises recession risk

Dr Stephen Anthony, chief economist for Industry Super Australia and former economic forecaster for the Australian Treasury, delivered a stern warning over the weekend that Australia’s risks sliding into recession as the housing market stalls because the Budget lacks the ammunition for another large GFC-style stimulus package. From Peter Martin at Fairfax:

“I think the risk of a recession is higher than most people would price it… Most people are talking about a less than 30 per cent chance this year. I think it is higher”…
