Why Hockey has to go
Joe Hockey is out defending himself at The Australian today and given the raging partisanship that has grabbed Budget discussion in the media – with The Oz on one side and the Pasconomical nuts on the other – let’s do a little stock take.
The Treasurer declared he had made the right calls on the economy and the budget, despite growing complaints that he fumbled the task of convincing the community to accept tough reforms.
…“Frankly, we went to the election with an effective mini-budget and our first MYEFO incorporated all our changes plus a revision to give a more accurate reflection of what the forecast for a range of things like commodity prices,” he said. “This was proved absolutely right. Labor accused me of exaggerating the forecasts but, thank goodness, I was conservative.”
