New home finance strengthened in September

Today’s housing finance data for September confirmed that buyer demand for newly constructed dwellings remains relatively strong (see next chart).

The number of finance commitments for new dwellings (i.e. construction plus new) jumped by a seasonally adjusted 2.1% in September to be up 10.9% over the year and tracking some 20% above the 5-year moving average level.
