AFG: First home buyers near record low

Australian Finance Group (AFG) has released its housing finance data for the month of July, which registered a large monthly rise in mortgage applications, with both the number and value of applications also well up on the same time last year and a record for the month of July.
The number of mortgage applications rose by 6% in July and were up 10% over the year to 9,300, whereas the value of applications rose by 9% over the month and were up by 21% over the year to $4,122 million (see next chart).
