ENGLAND’S Ashes campaign is in disarray with batsman Jonathan Trott returning home citing a stress-related illness days after David Warner claimed the batsman was frightened.
Trott, who averages 46 at No 3, is understood to have battled with health problems in the past and the England camp said his exit had nothing to do with things said during the Gabba Test.
…”I don’t feel it is right that I’m playing knowing I’m not 100 per cent and I cannot currently operate at the level I have reached in the past,” Trott said in the statement. “My priority now is to take a break from cricket to focus on my recovery.”
England coach Andy Flower said Trott was already on his way home to England last night.
“He has been suffering from a stress-related condition for quite a while. He’s always managed it very successfully,” Flower said.
“But he needs time away from this environment.”
That’s a shame. I wanted to see a real scrap. I guess we’ll be relying on Stuart Broad for that. But as Australia learned in England this kind of thing is not good early in a series.
