Rudd: “China resources boom is over”

Please find above new Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd’s, leadership victory speech delivered last night at around 10.40pm.

For mine, the most interesting aspect of Rudd’s speech is his comments that “the China resources boom is over” and that the Chinese economy has hit somewhat of a pot hole. This appears to be a shift in rhetoric from Julia Gillard’s and Wayne Swan’s CEDA speeches earlier this week, where they argued that the resources boom had much further to run.

Rudd also notes how the unwinding of the resources boom will require increased productivity if Australia is to continue increasing its living standards, which will require “tough decisions” on the future of the economy.
