I am not often one to display jingoism, but the below videos from the Daily Show on gun control make me proud to be an Aussie. For those of you that have not watched them, John Oliver debunks the US gun lobby’s claim that government-mandated gun control doesn’t work by investigating the Howard Government’s successful ban on semi-automatic and automatic guns in the wake of the Port Arthur massacre.

Whether you like or hate John Howard, you have to admit that he comes across well on this issue and that the Government’s stance on gun control (supported by the then opposition) was an example of highly successful policy making. The same cannot be said about the US gun lobby, which comes across as both illogical and disingenuous.

Both videos are highly recommended.
