Jacinta Allan resigns as premier of broken state

Jacinta Allan has resigned as Victorian Premier, paving the way for Ben Carroll to take over as the state’s leader, in a move that should avoid a messy leadership contest months before the state election.

“I am making this decision because it is the right thing for the Labor Party and the Victorian people”, she said.

“I leave immensely proud of what we have achieved these past three years”.
