The dumbening of Australian universities

Over the past several decades, Australia’s universities have been dumbed down by the flood of international students with poor English.
For example, a tutor at a leading sandstone university told The Guardian Australia in 2024 that the number of international students in her classes had reached as high as 80% and had badly degraded pedagogical standards.
“Most can’t speak, write or understand basic English”, she said. “They use translators or text capture to translate the lectures and tutorials, translation aids to read the literature and ChatGPT to generate ideas”.
