Productivity Commission pretends to care about housing affordability

The Productivity Commission (PC) has released a note arguing that Australia’s intergenerational bargain is breaking down, with younger Australians experiencing stagnant incomes, worsening housing affordability, and declining access to home ownership.
The note links these outcomes to falling housing construction productivity, regulatory burdens, and slow, fragmented planning systems.
“A person in their thirties now is earning roughly the same amount as someone in their thirties ten years ago”, the PC writes.
