Labor’s East Coast gas reservation copies Coalition policy

The AFR’s Phil Coorey made the salient observation that the Albanese government’s new 20% East Coast gas reservation policy on newly contracted and spot cargoes is effectively a copy of the Coalition’s policy taken to the last federal election, which Labor ruthlessly mocked:

 At the front of the queue to deride [Coalition leader Peter Dutton’s] proposal as unworkable was the Albanese government and its media claques. Resources Minister Madeleine King argued the existing Australian Domestic Gas Security Mechanism, or gas trigger, was sufficient to force more product into the domestic market when required”.

On Thursday, all that amounted to a hill of beans when King and Energy Minister Chris Bowen not only copied Dutton’s proposal but embellished it.
