Victorian Labor faces electoral wipe out

We received the clearest indication this week that the Victorian Labor government is cooked, with the Victorian Branch of the Australian Education Union (AEU), which is usually in Labor’s pocket, electing to strike next week over pay.

The union argues that Victorian public school staff are now among the lowest‑paid in Australia and that the government’s proposed 17% increase over four years (8% in year one, then 3% annually) fails to address the crisis in retention, recruitment, and working conditions.

Victoria’s teachers have experienced an 11% real pay cut since 2021, and the AEU claims that the government’s offer does not restore lost wages or match increases won in other states.
