Crikey appalled by ending Ukraine War

What is the wokester to do when his great enemy, Trump, tries to end wars?

Simple! Abandon the suffering to protect his virtue. Wokey is just awful these days.

Talking of chaos, there is yet more tariff news (at the time of writing it is top of the ABC, Reuters, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, CNN, BBC, and many more places), with US President Donald Trump issuing an executive order on Wednesday placing an additional 25% tariff on India over its purchasing of Russian oil.

The Associated Press reports the move brings the combined tariffs imposed by the US on India to 50%.

As always with Trump’s tariff “announcements”, the newswire adds: “The tariffs would go into effect 21 days after the signing of the order, meaning that both India and Russia might have time to negotiate with the administration on the import taxes.”

The BBC highlights India’s foreign ministry has called the tariff “unfair, unjustified and unreasonable”, adding in a statement: “It is therefore extremely unfortunate that the US should choose to impose additional tariffs on India for actions that several other countries are also taking in their own national interest. India will take all actions necessary to protect its national interests.”

…The BBC points out the Trump administration has said it will “recommend further actions to the president as needed” after looking at which other countries import oil from Russia. The broadcaster adds Moscow’s biggest customers of oil and gas include China, India and Türkiye.

Correct, but Trump is not going to impact Chinese purchases. Especially while he’s busy trying to end his trade war on the same, with the support of Wokey.

And Turkey buys bugger all.

India has long been a loose cannon vis-à-vis Russia. Throughout the Cold War, India’s communist sympathies kept it steadfastly on the geopolitical fence.

It was for this reason that Australian ties with the subcontinent languished for decades despite shared histories.

It’s no bad thing to push India on Russian ties, especially if it helps end the slaughter in Ukraine, which does have the unfortunate side effect of impacting Australia via a possible Third World War.

Doubtless, Trump’s agenda also includes boosting American military trade with India, which wouldn’t be a bad thing, either, if it displaced Russian influence.

But it’s Trump, you know, and therefore, ending the Ukraine War now worships Satan at Wokey.
