Last month, the Australian Population Research Institute (TAPRI) released its survey on voter attitudes, which, among other things, showed that the overwhelming majority of voters do not support recent high levels of immigration or a Big Australia.

Only 11% of the electorate support the current high migration settings, whereas 80% want lower migration numbers.

TAPRI’s survey also shows that only 27% of voters think that Australia needs more people: the rest, 73%, say that we do not. This question has been asked in earlier surveys and shows that the proportion of voters saying that we do not need more people has increased from 65% in 2022 to 73% in December 2024.
