Former Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews announced in 2023 that the state would build 80,000 homes annually for the next ten years.
Since Labor formed the government in 2014, Victoria has never built more than 70,000 new homes in a calendar year. Therefore, the 80,000 annual target necessitates a significant increase in construction activity. However, the data is already moving in the wrong direction.

The 800,000 objective is part of a larger plan to add two million dwellings by 2051 to accommodate the state’s rapid population expansion.
