While the focus in Canberra has been on this three-way stoush, two peak national bodies for homelessness and housing are themselves fighting for survival.
The peak bodies say they received assurances from Labor in opposition and have now made “multiple approaches” for funding of between $500,000 and $1.2 million a year to the minister for housing and homelessness, Julie Collins, as well as Social Services Minister Amanda Rishworth, Treasurer Jim Chalmers and the Prime Minister’s Office.
But why would Albo fund them when they make up lies the following:
These advocacy groups see the housing and homelessness problem in Australia as being in “deep crisis” and worsening. Kate Colvin, the chief executive of Homelessness Australia, says the situation “is far worse than it was 10 years ago”. She says many more people are being squeezed out of the private rental market and needing social housing that simply isn’t there.
In addition to their welfare role, the peak bodies conduct research and unmatched data collection, sometimes at the behest of government departments. National Shelter produces an authoritative Rental Affordability Index, with SGS Economics and Planning, on a pro bono basis to track rental affordability.
But, Kate, ten years ago, the Coalition was in government so your lobby made sense. Now that Labor is now power, the unprecedented homelessness crisis directly created by Albo is still the Coalition’s fault and until you realise that there will be no funding forthcoming.

The homelessness shock wracking the nation is the direct result of Peter Dutton’s Coalition policy neglect.
The Albanese government is doing everything in its power to alleviate the burden placed upon youth by an indifferent and evil Peter Dutton.
Immigration levels should be immediately doubled to one million people per year to ensure there are enough realtors, barristers and hairdressers such that homelessness crisis does not spread to other industries.
Tradies should continue to be exempt from skilled shortages lists and no new training funded lest it make the homelessness crisis worse via an excess of underpaid apprentices.
This way the homelessness crisis can addressed head on with all available resources.
Nuclear power is another direct cause of homelessness.
