Let us momentarily imagine that Labor is proposing nuclear power without costings from opposition.
The uproar for the Coalition would be immense, and rightly so.
Yet that’s what the Coalition is proposing to take to the election:
The cost of the nuclear proposal has not been revealed at this stage, with Mr Dutton declining to commit to releasing the expense to the taxpayer before voters go to the polls.
I am prepared to engage in the nuclear debate and contemplate its promise, but how can I?
Or anybody else.
This makes the entire gambit a farce and gives credence to the view of Malcolm Turnbull:
Today’s nuclear power announcement by Peter Dutton offers Australians the worst of all energy worlds. It is designed to delay and obstruct the rollout of renewables, it will increase, massively, the cost of electricity, and it will extend our reliance on burning coal.
As it stands, this is the only conclusion that we can draw.
