Aussies are afraid of China

The latest Lowy Poll was out this week and, thankfully, shows Albo’s China grovelling having little impact at home.

Despite two years of political reengagement between Australia and China, popular opinion of China remains historically low. 17% of Australians trust China ‘somewhat’ or ‘a great deal’ to act responsibly. This is constant from 2023 and up slightly from 2022, when China trust hit a record low of 12%. It contrasts with six years ago, when 52% of Australians trusted China.

Australia trusts Russia 8% less than the other eight countries, a status it has retained since its invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
