Beware policies to boost university enrolment

The Albanese government’s Universities Accord interim report, commissioned by Education Minister Jason Clare, recommended a higher education attainment target of 55% by 2050, up from around 45% today.

This target would require an additional 300,000 domestic undergraduate students to be enrolled by 2035, with 900,000 by 2050.

John Ross at the Times Higher Education noted that admission and completion rates are moving in the opposite direction after collapsing in 2023:
