The former head of one of Japan’s biggest energy companies says any disruption to the supply of Australian LNG would have a “huge impact” on millions of people across the country, as the Kishida government prepares for high-level talks with the Albanese government on energy security and investment.

Although stopping short of criticising Labor’s energy and emission policies, Michiaki Hirose, who was Tokyo Gas chairman until he retired in June, said Australian LNG was vital to keeping the lights on in large parts of Tokyo.
