The Greens’ betrayal of their core vote has never been more evident after the failure of the National Cabinet to provide a housing fix.
The National Cabinet reforms are useless other than providing marginal support for property developers.
There is no rent freeze, little boost to supply, a definite drop in apartment quality and, without doubt, further deterioration in the built environment.
But then, The Greens were never serious about fixing housing or the environment. If they were, they would campaign for a major cut to the immigration intake instead of trying to raise it further from record levels.
The Greens are about perpetuating a destructive housing pantomime to wedge votes from Labor.
Cue the fake outrage:
“From now on, every unfair rent increase is Labor’s fault,” Bandt told ABC’s RN Breakfast.
“There’s nothing for renters in this package, which is incredibly disappointing,” Bandt said.
“I’m really frustrated because we have bent over backwards to negotiate with the government on this and to push for action on renters and to get the government to take the rental crisis seriously.”
And more:
“Labor has just locked in yearly astronomical rent increases, and tried to handball the heavy lifting on fixing the housing crisis to the same property developers who created the crisis in the first place,” he said.
“This is a smoke and mirrors announcement designed to make it look like Labor has done something meaningful for renters, when in fact they have basically enshrined the status quo, leaving renters exposed to astronomical rent increases once a year.”
“It seems like the prime minister has announced $3 billion to build penthouse apartments no one can afford when they should just be spending an extra $3 billion on public and affordable housing,” he said.
The AlboGreens and their quantitative peopling obsession have locked in the housing permacrisis and delivered precisely what MB predicted it would.
Free money for property developers and falling living standards for everybody else.
