The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) on Wednesday released data showing that the number of people holding multiple jobs and the proportion of employed people holding more than one job were record highs in March quarter 2023:

Multiple job holders

There were 947,300 multiple job holders in March 2023, compared to little over 13 million single job holders. This was an increase of 2.1% from December 2022, when there were 927,900 people working multiple jobs.

The multiple job-holding rate stayed between 5.0% and 6.0% between 1994 and 2019. However, after a significant drop at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, it has progressively increased to a series high of 6.6% in March 2023.
