Victorian voters finally turn on Teflon Dan

“Teflon” Dan Andrews increased his parliamentary majority in last year’s Victorian State Election despite multiple corruption scandals, hotel quarantine failures, the world’s longest Covid lockdowns, infrastructure rorting and waste, and Victoria’s budget sinking deep into the red.

Andrews’ decision to scrap the 2026 Commonwealth Games – an event almost no Victorian wanted – could cost taxpayers billions in contract break costs. It also looks to be the ‘straw’ that has finally broken Teflon Dan’s electoral back.

New polling from Roy Morgan shows that support for the Victorian ALP plunged to 53% (down 8.5% points since late May) compared to the LNP Coalition on 47% (up 8.5% points) on a two-party preferred basis, following Andrews’ decision to cancel the 2026 Commonwealth Games:
