Aussie monthly inflation shocks on the upside

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) released its monthly inflation indicator for April, which surprised on the upside.

Headline inflation came in at 6.8% year-on-year, which was above expectations of a 6.4% rise.

The most significant price rises were Housing (+8.9%), Food and non-alcoholic beverages (+7.9%) and Transport (+7.1%). Petrol (gasoline) prices in the month of April were much higher than in March.
