Aged care sector demands cheap exploitable migrant workers

Student visa holders are currently able to work unlimited hours as a result of a measure introduced during the pandemic.

However, the federal government has announced that on 1 July, it will reduce the hours they can work in a week to 24 (up from 20 hours pre-pandemic).

The aged-care sector relies heavily on international student visa holders to fill low-paid care roles, and the strapped sector is asking the federal government to delay its decision to cut the hours international students can work for six months.
