In the lead-up to September’s Jobs & Skills Summit, business lobby group CEDA implored the Albanese Government to aggressively compete with Canada for migrants.
“Canada significantly increased its permanent migration intake through the pandemic to provide greater certainty to temporary migrants already onshore and send strong signals to prospective future migrants offshore”, CEDA’s submission read.
Similar opinions were expressed by Home Affairs Minister Clare O’Neil, who claimed that many of the “best and brightest minds” were migrating to Canada and other countries rather than Australia. The “global war for talent” required Australia to compete more fiercely, claimed O’Neil.
