Unions right to seek $57 rise for low paid

The ACTU has used its submission to the Fair Work Commission’s annual wage review to call for the minimum wage to be increased in line with the inflation rate.

The peak union body wants a 7% increase in both minimum and award wages, with ACTU secretary Sally McManus contending that this is necessary to enable working people to “keep their heads above water”.

This would increase the minimum wage by $56.88 per week to $869.48, and $45,337 per annum.
