Record number of Australians died in 2022

IFM Investors chief economist, Alex Joiner, has posted some interesting charts on Twitter showing how a record 53,200 number of Australians died in Q3 2022:

Per capita deaths had been trending lower for decades, However, this trend clearly broke in 2022 with deaths per 1,000 people soaring to 7.2 – its highest level since the late 1980s:

The surge in deaths pushed down Australia’s natural population growth (i.e. births minus deaths) to just 114,800 in the year to September:
