PBO: Marijuana legalisation would pack Budget cone

New analysis from the Parliamentary Budget Office (PBO) commissioned by the Greens contends that legalising and taxing cannabis could earn the federal budget upwards of $30 billion over a decade.

Under The Greens’ proposal, a new federal agency – the Cannabis Australia National Agency (CANA) – would set cannabis prices and act as an intermediary between producers and a tightly regulated retail industry.

Sales would be restricted to individuals over 18 years of age, with no restrictions on the amount individuals could purchase.
