KPMG: Australia added 440,000 people in 2022

Terry Rawnsley, Director at KPMG Planning & Infrastructure Economics, has published a post on LinkedIn estimating that Australia’s population grew by 440,000 people last year, taking the nation beyond 26 million people:

Our estimates show that Australia’s #population grew by 440,000 people during 2022. In the second half of 2022, the population surpassed 26 million people for the first time.

The annual growth rate nationally for 2022 was 1.7%, the highest since March 2017, and was driven by the opening of the international border. Queensland continues to have the highest population growth rate (2.1%), with Victoria making the largest contribution to population growth (127,000), followed by New South Wales (120,000)…
