Do we want a skilled immigration system or not?

The ANU’s Andrew Norton has warned that most international students would struggle to gain permanent residency is the skilled migration income threshold was lifted to the median full-time wage (currently $85,000), which includes unskilled workers.

In fact, many would struggle for permanent residency even if the threshold was set at only $70,000 – i.e. $15,000 below the median full-time wage.
