Record immigration not enough for business lobby

A record immigration intake for 2022-23 is not enough for Australia’s business lobby, which has demanded a further expansion to make up for ‘immigration losses’ over the pandemic and to ease purported skills shortages:

The Albanese government announced in September a one-off increase in the permanent intake from 160,000 to 195,000 this financial year, but Deloitte partner Fiona Webb said the move did not go far enough given the breadth of current worker shortages…

“Migration always needs to be a demand-driven program, and at present the demand is such that you could go beyond that [195,000] cap,” she told AFR Weekend…
