Or to start any committees. Or to actually swear in any of the 443 members of Congress…

U.S. House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., lost an eighth vote for House speaker Thursday, even after he made several concessions intended to win over far-right opponents who have so far blocked his path to the gavel.
