China threatens retaliatory action over COVID testing

A growing number of countries will require travellers from China to undergo pre-flight testing for COVID-19. However, Chinese claim such measures are not necessary, and foreign ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning has warned that the nation will take reciprocal action against countries that impose testing requirements that apply only to travellers from China:

“Some of these measures are disproportionate and simply unacceptable”, Mao Ning said in response to a question from a journalist during her regular media briefing on Tuesday night.

“We firmly reject using COVID measures for political purposes and will take corresponding measures in response to varying situations based on the principle of reciprocity”.
