Unlimited work rights see international ‘students’ flooding into Australia

Navitas has released findings of new research on the country preferences of international students. The survey canvassed the views of nearly 900 education agents worldwide in October, with more than 80% saying Australia is now the most appealing destination for international students, compared with just 28% a year ago.

Not surprisingly, the former Coalition government’s decision to uncap the number of hours international students can work, alongside the expansion of post-study work rights (PSWR), has driven the increased interest in Australia:

Navitas global head of insights and analytics Jonathan Chew told The Australian… there was a risk that the uncapped work hours meant student visas had recently become something of a “de facto work visa”.
